Sherburn Festival this weekend | News, Sports, Jobs

SHERBURN — This weekend will be the Sherburn Festival beginning with a finger lickin chicken supper from 5-8 pm Friday, June 17, at the Sherburn Fire Hall, with a street dance to follow from 8:30 pm to 12:30 am featuring the band ‘Rhino.’ Most of the festival activities are at the Sherburn City Park including the Sherburn High School all-class reunion meeting at the east side of the shelter house for coffee and donuts from 9:30-11 am The festival is all day from 8 am with a 5K fun run to 9 pm, with the street dance featuring the Fat City All Stars band. There is a classic auto and tractor show from 8-11 am There is a volleyball tournament, vendor show, bingo, and inflatables besides the food stands, rootbeer float stand and beer garden at the park. The parade will begin 11 am at the high school and go south and then east to circle the park and end at the water tower. There will be a petting zoo in the afternoon. Shell’s Hobo Band will play from noon to 1 pm at the park. At 12:30 pm the Kids Pedal Pull will be held and DJ Ron Helmich will play music from 1-4 pm The street dance with Fat City All Stars band will be held from 6-9 pm Sounds like a fun filled day/weekend.

Dunnell Lake Fremont Fire Department has scheduled their annual hog roast from 11 am to 1:30 pm Sunday, June 19, at the Dunnell Community Hall. A free will donation will help the fire department purchase equipment.

Ruby’s Pantry food distribution will be held 5:30-7 pm Monday, June 20, at the Regional Worship Center parking lot in Sherburn just south of I-90. $25 buys a lot of food. Check out the list on Facebook prior to that day. Boxes are placed in your empty trunk. There are no residence or income guidelines. This is their third anniversary and hot dogs will be served as you drive through until they run out as a thank you to those who have supported them for three years.

Trimont has begun it’s Sundaes in the Park at 6 pm Their Fun Fest will be July 5-10. Trimont has a farmer’s market from 2:30-5:30 pm every Friday at the Anderson Park Shelter House. Coffee and goodies are also available for a free will donation which helps the Trimont Food Shelf.

St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn is having Tuesday coffee hours during the month of June from 8:30 to 10 am Join friends and neighbors for good fellowship.

Sherburn City Hall will be open every morning from Monday through Friday until the new city clerk will be starting on July 5. Thank you to former city clerk, Irene Schlapoff, for filling in at city hall.

Summer School has begun at Martin County West until July 1. For more information, call (507) 764-4661. Students in general are encouraged to use the online resources of Moby Max (Trimont) and IXL (Sherburn) for practice on skills. Three teachers retired this year and were given a thank you party at the Sherburn Legion last week. Thank you to Nancy Prunty, Karen McConnell and Kathy Neppl, who have taught MCW for approximately 40 years each. MCW FFA has a busy summer planned. They will have a sand volleyball tournament on June 30. They plan to attend the Moon Dogs baseball game on July 21, and outdoor movies are in the works besides the Martin County Fair in August. CER has many activities for adults and children during the summer. Check out the offerings in the June school newsletter, on Facebook, MCW website or site.

Congratulations to Darrell and Gerry Boe who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house from 2-4 pm Saturday, June 18, at the Methodist Church in Estherville, Iowa. Cards will reach them at 409 N. 8th St., Estherville, AI 51334.

The movie this weekend at the Sherburn Theater is Jurassic Park Dominion. Show times are 7 pm Friday and Saturday, and 4 pm on Sunday.
