Top 10 Dog Breeds Experiencing a Price Increase

Labrador Retrievers, Cocker Spaniels and English Springer Spaniels are among the top 10 dog breeds experiencing a price increase, new research has found.

According to Agria Pet Insurance, the price people pay for popular breeds is at an all-time high in the UK, thanks to the unprecedented demand for dogs during the pandemic. This serves as a good reminder that we should all be adopting animals where we can and giving a home to dogs in need.

Labradors might be an easy-going friendly pet, but the cost of owning them has increased by a whopping 47%. Meanwhile, Cocker Spaniels have also risen by 45% to £1,800, closely followed by Cockapoos, French Bulldogs and Miniature Dachshunds.

“We’ve seen the pandemic have a significant impact on various aspects of the pet industry over the past two years, but it’s the effect of lockdown on puppy prices that’s troubling,” Tom Vaughan, Head of Marketing at Agria Pet Insurance, said.

Cockapoos also made the list

“It can be challenging for safeguarding animal welfare and it means that many dog lovers wanting to expand their families are priced out of the market. Those that have made the commitment to a new dog however, are likely to have reaped endless benefit throughout such an uncertain period with our furry-friends come to ease loneliness, increase sociability and reduce stress and anxiety.”
